Goreville suffers first loss, Charleston headed to Superman title game


METROPOLIS — The Charleston Blue Jays earned a trip to the Superman Classic championship game with an 83-70 win over previously unbeaten Goreville.

The Blue Jays will face the host Massac County Patriots Saturday night for the title. The Blackcats will play Carterville in the third place game.

Charleston jumped out a 23-15 lead after one quarter, but Goreville rallied in the second. The Blackcats cut the deficit to one, but could never take the lead, as the Blue Jays extended the lead to 39-29 at the half.

Goreville rallied again in the third, closing to within two points, but again the Blue Jays answered pushing the lead back to 11 at 59-48 after three.

The Blackcats could never make a serious charge in the fourth quarter and fall to 20-1 on the season.

Charleston was led in scoring by Samuel Bledsoe who poured in 28 points. Blessin Kimble added 21 and Terridean Bogan 19.

Nick Compton led Goreville with 18. Landon Albright added 15 and Kanon Webb 10.
