Pinckneyville holds off Fairfield in defensive scrum

PINCKNEYVILLE — Pinckneyville’s Dre Scott and Fairfield’s Landon Zurliene each scored 20 points Saturday night. The two teams’ defenses locked nearly everybody else up. The end result was a 48-42 Pinckneyville win in the final game of the day long Panther Showcase.

The game was tied at 15 after one quarter, but Pinckneyville took control by outscoring Fairfield 15-5 in the second. Scott did much of the first half damage for the Panthers as he scored 16 of his 20 points.

Staring at a 10-point deficit coming out of halftime, the Mules promptly opened the third quarter on an 8-0, but they could never tie the game or take the lead.

The Panthers extended the lead back to nine in the fourth, then survived poor free throw shooting (6/14), and Zurliene’s late barrage of three-pointers.
