Cobden downs Century to advance to regional championship game

COBDEN — The Cobden Appleknockers will play for their first regional championship in 56 years Friday night after
using their size and strength to muscle past Century 66-47 in the semifinals of their own 1A regional.

Big men Noah Franklin and Joe Brumleve combined for 48 points to lead the Cobden attack. The Appleknockers led by eight at the half and pushed that to 13 after three, courtesy Franklin’s buzzer-beating layup. He led all scorers with 28.

Brumleve opened the fourth with a steal and two-handed slam for two of his 20 points.

Jacob Jones led the Centurions with 22. Tyler Lang added 16.

The Appleknockers will face Cairo Friday night at 7:00 for the championship. Cobden has not won a regional title since the famous Appleknockers team that finished second in state back in 1964.
