Former Herrin standout earns national honors

Former Herrin Tigers standout bowler Cassidy Ray put together quite a sophomore season at the University of Nebraska, and now she is receiving national honors for her efforts.

Monday, the National Tenpin Coaches Association selected Ray as an honorable mention All-American. The NTCA recognizes a total of 25 bowlers for Division I, II, and III. Ray’s teammate, Raquel Orozco was named the Division I player.

Ray averaged 201.1 in 39 games this season for the Huskers, raising her average by more than 11 pins from her redshirt freshman season. Ray also tallied the first two top-five finishes of her collegiate career helping the Huskers finish with a 79-35 record and a final No. 3 national ranking in 2019-20.
