Carbondale’s Ragland competed for US National team

CARBONDALE — The first few months of 2020 have been quite difficult, challenging, frustrating–pick a description.

The year didn’t start that way, especially for Carbondale junior Darius Ragland.

Ragland earned an invitation to play for the US National Football team. He played on the 17U squad that faced Japan at AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys. The US lost the game 28-20.

Ragland was a standout quarterback for Carbondale last season, helping the Terriers to an 8-2 record, a share of the South 7 championship, and playoff berth. For the US team, he played defense. And played it well, even returning an interception for a touchdown against Japan.

Shortly after returning to Carbondale, Darius sat down with our Darren Kinnard to talk about the experience.
