Matt Crain resigns after highly successful run at Carterville

CARTERVILLE — After seven seasons as Carterville’s girls basketball head coach, Matt Crain has resigned.

To say the Lady Lions had a pretty good run during Crain’s tenure as head coach is a pretty good understatement.
Carterville compiled a 181-40 record, won regional championships in all seven seasons, and just completed the best season in school history with a third place finish at the 2A State Tournament back in February.

Crain sat down with Darren Kinnard to talk about his decision, as well as what it took to build a state title contender, and what it was like to experience the success all while coaching his daughter.
