Mt. Carmel shares top spot in AP 2A rankings

The Mt. Carmel Golden Aces moved into a share of the number one ranking in the latest Associated Press 2A boys basketball poll released Tuesday afternoon. The Aces received two first place votes. Despite having not played a game yet, Chicago Clark received three first place votes, to tie Mt. Carmel for the top spot.

Fairfield checks in at number six in the 2A poll. Nashville is tied for eighth with Eureka. Massac County, Breese Mater Dei, Breese Central, Wesclin, Carterville and Pinckneyville all received votes.

In 1A, Cobden is tied for fifth with Concord Triopia. Okawville and South Central also received votes.

In 3A, Centralia and Mt. Vernon both received votes.

On the girls’ side, Carterville remains third in 2A. Unbeaten Nashville, who just won at Carterville Friday night, debuts in the poll at number seven. Massac County also received votes.

A total of six teams from the region are ranked with 11 more receiving votes.
