Steeleville holds off Meridian to advance

PINCKNEYVILLE — In a match up two of the area’s top 1A teams, Steeleville held off Meridian 51-42 in the opening round of the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic.

Reid Harriss led four Warriors in double figures with 15 points. Jacoby Gross added 13, Zach Mevert 11, and Carter Wasson 10.

Meridian’s Jaden Bigham led all scorers with 18 points. Tristen Mackins added 17.

Steeleville advances to face top-seed Murphysboro in the quarterfinals. It will be a rematch of the championship game of the Murphysboro/Trico Tournament which the Red Devils won.

The Bobcats will face Okawville in consolation bracket.
