MT. VERNON — The Marion Wildcats overcame some shaky free throw shooting late to pick up a South 7 road win, beating Mt. Vernon 45-42.

The Wildcats led 23-20 at the half and extended their lead to as many as nine in fourth quarter, but a 4-13 performance from the free throw line in the fourth allowed the Rams to rally and even have a couple of chances to tie the game in the closing seconds. Mt. Vernon was unable to get a good look at a potential game-tying three either opportunity.

Rayzhaun Bardo led the Wildcats with 17 points. Evan Noelle added 11. Mt. Vernon’s NJ Benson led all scorers with 22.

The Wildcats improve to 7-7, 2-1 in the South 7. The Rams fall to 11-6, 3-2 in conference play.
