HERRIN — The Mattoon Green Wave and the Centralia Annies will be logging more postseason miles this week, as they will make the trek back to Herrin to battle for a 3A girls basketball regional championship Thursday night at 7:00.

The top-seeded Green Wave opened Tuesday’s semifinal doubleheader with a 71-46 win over the host Lady Tigers. Loyola recruit Mallory Ramage scored 17 of her game high 35 in the first quarter, helping Mattoon to a 29-12 lead after one.

Herrin used an 11-0 run to get back within striking distance, cutting the deficit to 36-25 by halftime. The second half though was all Green Wave, as they rolled to the 25-point win. Presli Karnes led the Lady Tigers with 20 points.

The nightcap was a South 7 affair as Centralia battled Marion. The Annies led by 10 at the half and built the lead up to 16 in the third. The Lady Wildcats cut the deficit to nine early in the fourth quarter, but could get no closer.

Sophomore JaLea Shered led the Annies with 18 points with freshman Jasaiya Wallace added 12. Marion’s Jerzy Bittle led all scorers with 22 points.
