Herrin slams Du Quoin to clinch Tip-Off Classic title

DU QUOIN — The Herrin Tigers scored the first eight points and cruised from there beating Du Quoin in the final game of the Tip-Off Classic 55-29 to finish 4-0 and tournament champions.

Kyrese Lukens led a balanced Tigers attack with 10 points. Exavier Williams scored nine before leaving the game in the third quarter with an injury. Du Quoin’s Kameron Hugya led all scorers with 13 points.

Carmi-White County finished second as a team (3-1), followed by Du Quoin (2-2), West Frankfort (1-3), and Cairo (0-4).

Lukens, Williams, Jonathan Harrison, and Haydon Mayer all made the all-tournament team from Herrin. Hugya and Gage Green joined them along with Carmi-White County’s Bryce Conner, Landon Driscoll, and Mitchell Edwards as well as Cairo’s Jeserick Pilgrim. Conner was named tournament MVP.
